To get a listing by subject of these databases please go to our Databases by Subject page.

REMOTE ACCESS TO DATABASES - To connect to our databases off-campus simply go to the Library Webpage http://www.massart.edu/library and click on the desired database under Electronic Databases. You will need to enter your MassArt log-in and password. Once entered you can switch from database to database with out having to re-enter your log-in and password.   • Academic OneFile Gale/InfoTrac contains peer-reviewed, scholarly journals on many subjects. Help Guide
  • AMIG Image Library is a database that contains 90,000 images of works of art. The images are taken from the collections of member museums of AMIG (Art Museum Image Group) and represent cultures from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. There is great coverage of paintings, sculpture from 20,000 BC to contemporary art, as well as, fine and decorative art. Help Guide
  • ArtBibliographies Modern Cambridge Scientific Abstract contains almost 300,000 abstracts concerning contemporary and modern art from journal articles, books, exhibition catalogs, essays and reviews. The abstracts cover subjects ranging from performance art and installation art to illustration and body art since the late 19th century . The entire history of photography is covered. Help Guide
  • Art FullText (Art Index 1984 - current) Wilson Web has international coverage of periodicals from 1984 to the current dealing with art history, decorative arts, industrial design, photography, sculpture, fashion design, graphic arts, advertising and many more art-oriented subjects. The database indexes international professional journals and museum bulletins. Reproductions of works are also indexed. Help Guide
  • Art Index Retrospective (Art Index 1929 - 1984) Wilson Web art history, decorative arts, graphic arts, industrial design, interior design, photography, textiles and many more art related subjects. The database indexes international professional journals, yearbooks and museum bulletins. Reproductions of works of art published in indexed periodicals are also indexed within the database. Compilation of Art Index volumes 1 – 32 published from 1929 – 1984. Help Guide
  • ArtStor Image Database is a database that currently consists of 300,000 images. The database includes images ranging from Western art, American art, Asian art, architectural drawings to Native American art. There are not currently large amounts of contemporary art images available in the database. The images are high resolution and can be used to create presentations for the classroom. Images can be searched by keyword, creator, title, location or subject. Help Guide
  • Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals Cambridge Scientific Abstract is one of the definitive database for architecture, it covers an international scope of buildings and contains citations only. Help Guide
  • Bibliography of the History of Art Cambridge Scientific Abstractcontains over 650,000 citations on western art history from the 4th century to present. There is a focus on traditional arts but it also covers archaeology and architecture. Journals, dissertations, papers are indexed. Help Guide
  • Biography Resource Center Gale/InfoTrac includes full-text articles from periodicals, as well as, over 900,000 entries from Who's Who. Help Guide
  • Business Index ASAP Gale/InfoTrac provides information on management issues, economic indicators and business theories and practices, as well as on the activities of companies and industries worldwide. Includes academic and business journals with full text and images. Help Guide
  • Chronicle of Higher Education
  • Contemporary Literary Criticisms Gale/InfoTrac contains an extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary writers. Help Guide
  • Corbis contains over 485,000 images in the historical and design collections that can be used in classroom projects, portfolios, lessons plans and presentations. Please come to the Reference Desk for account information. Help Guide
  • Design Abstracts Retrospective Cambridge Scientific Abstract is a retrospective of the Design and Applied Arts Index covering the years 1903 to 1986. Help Guide
  • Design and Applied Arts Index Cambridge Scientific Abstractprovides coverage from over 450 design and craft journals published since 1973 and contains biographical information on over 50,000 designers, craftspeople, studios and firms. This database covers areas of study such as: typography, environmental design, ceramics, web site design, embroidery, textile design and furniture design. Help Guide
  • Design ProFiles Cambridge Scientific Abstract is a database that has over 8,000 profiles of professionals in design and design-related fields. Help Guide
  • Ebsco Animals Ebsco has encyclopedic level information on animal habitats. Help Guide
  • eLibrary Curriculum ProQuest is a easy-to-use interface that has thousands of maps, pictures, a full-text from magazines and books. Help Guide
  • Educator's Reference Complete Gale/InfoTrac is a selection of more than 450 full-text academic journals, hundreds of full-text reports, and many premier reference sources. Included content focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education. Majority of the full-text titles included are also found in the ERIC database.   • ERIC Ebsco covers more than 2,200 digests and over 1,000 education journals. Help Guide
  • Expanded Academic ASAP Gale/InfoTrac which indexes both scholarly and general periodicals on general sciences, humanities, law, psychology and sociology for college-level research. Several art periodicals are indexed in this database, such as Art News and Art in America. Many articles are full-text. Help Guide
  • Film & Television Literature Index Ebsco is an Ebsco database that indexes more than 300 publications and selected coverage of 300 more publications in film and television research. Help Guide
  • Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia Ebsco has over 25,000 encyclopedic entries. Help Guide
  • Gale Virtual Reference Collection Gale/InfoTrac is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. Help Guide
  • General BusinessFile ASAP Gale/InfoTrac indexes general and scholarly sources that covers all business and management topics and includes company profiles. Help Guide
  • General OneFile Gale/InfoTrac is a one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. Millions of full-text articles, many with images. Help Guide
  • General Reference Center Gold Gale/InfoTrac is the equivalent to Reader's Guide and covers popular magazines, news magazines and newspapers. Help Guide
  • Grove Dictionary of Art contains more than 45,000 articles covering most aspects of art history including, painting, sculpture, graphic arts, architecture, decorative arts and photography and over 23,000 biographies of western and non-western artists, patrons and writers. There are over 100,000 images available through the Bridgeman Art Library’s collection. Help Guide
  • Health Reference Center Academic Gale/InfoTrac is a database that is great for definitions of medical terms and the article coverage ranges from fitness to prescription drugs for academic research. Help Guide
  • Health Source - Consumer Edition Ebsco is geared to consumers, not academics, this database includes information on nutrition, sports medicine, medical sciences and general health. Help Guide
  • InFoTrac Onefile Gale/InfoTrac s a more general database with full-text articles on a wide range of topics. Help Guide
  • JStor has over 275 full-text journals available in art history, archaeology, asian studies, performing arts and architecture. Help Guide

  • Lexis-Nexis covers over 5,900 full-text publications including newspapers (New York Times), business, legal and news journals. Help Guide
  • Literary Reference Center Ebsco Help Guide
  • Massachusetts History Online Gale/InfoTrac contains full-text articles gathered from almost 50 sources that directly relate to MA history. Help Guide
  • MasterFile Premier Ebsco is a multidisciplinary database with full-text on many subjects of general interest. Help Guide
  • NetLibrary is a collection of electronic books. This collection includes 3000 public domain titles (i.e., classics) and 3000 recently published books. The subjects covered by the recently published ebooks range law to web development.
  • Newspaper Source Ebsco which provides full-text of 25 national and international newspapers. Help Guide
  • New York Times Gale/InfoTrac Help Guide
  • Oxford Reference Online contains over 130 subject dictionaries and the Oxford Encyclopedia to answer quick reference questions and to verify facts and dates. Help Guide
  • Professional Collection Gale/InfoTrac is a database for teachers and school administrators that contains full-text periodicals on education. Help Guide
  • Professional Develeopment Collection Ebsco indexes more than 350 peer-reviewed titles and more than 200 educational reports. Help Guide

  • Science Reference Center Ebsco is a database that. covers biology, chemistry, earth and environmental science. Help Guide
