Opportunities for MassArt Faculty
Classroom-Community Collaborations
Classroom-Community Collaborations are led by
MassArt faculty members who wish to implement community-based projects as part
of course curricula. The Center works with faculty and local organizations
to match student expertise and course objectives to needs identified by community
members, secure funding as necessary, and provide technical support and project
evaluation. The Center funds between one and three Classroom-Community Collaborations
per semester, and will work with interested faculty members to develop ideas
and identify partners.

SPARRING PARTNERS Window
Gallery at 635 Huntington Ave
635 Huntington Avenue was the site of Sparr’s Drugstore
from 1936 until 2002, when Arthur Sparr sold the space to Harvard Medical School
(HMS). In 2005 HMS invited Mission Hill Main Streets, MassArt, and the School
of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston to collaboratively conceptualize and administer
a gallery space in the windows of 635 Huntington Ave. Throughout the year representatives
from the partner institutions issue calls for art, jury submitted work, and coordinate
installation of shows by community artists and students from both schools.
Faculty members are encouraged to submit proposals for shows of student work
in Sparring Partners. Collaborative shows with other schools or local organizations
are preferred, and creative use of the window spaces is encouraged!
