Massachusetts College of Art + Design
Studio Foundation Orientation Project

THE JOURNEY POSTCARD

Dear New Students,
Welcome to MassArt!  The summer is upon us and we are preparing for your arrival in the fall.  As part of the process, we are excited to share with you your summer art project, which is part of your New Student Orientation program.

Using a postcard format, you are asked to develop a piece of artwork that represents aspect(s) of your journey to MassArt.
Your concept may include important aspects of your journey to Massachusetts College of Art + Design. You might reflect on your place of birth, life at home and growing up.  You might include your expectations of life in Boston and life at an art school. You could consider what this decision means for you personally and for your and family and friends. You might consider where you are now as an artist and your thoughts about your future. You could also represent a completely different aspect of the journey that brought you here. How you interpret the journey theme is up to you.

During Orientation, you will participate with a faculty member in an open group critique/discussion of the postcards. Your artwork will serve as an introduction to your faculty.
Along with my colleagues, I look forward to meeting you at Orientation and to working with you during your first year.

Best of success,
Robert Coppola, Professor
Chair, Studio Foundation Department
