Smith Hall
Smith Hall houses first year students in suite-style living spaces of three
to five students. It is staffed with a full-time, professional, live-in Residence
Director and trained student Resident Assistants who provide support for the
residence hall community while overseeing a thriving program of activities
and events. Professional security personnel, on duty 24 hours a day, check
the identification of individuals entering the building.
The building's innovative design includes studio workrooms and quiet rooms
on each floor. A common room, game room/TV lounge, complete kitchen and laundry
facilities, student mailboxes, and bulletin boards for messages for upcoming
events are all located on the first floor. Other Smith Hall amenities include
high-speed Internet access, local telephone service/voice mail and basic cable
service. The building is smoke free and HP accessible. Students residing in
Smith Hall participate in a full meal plan. Bus and subway stops are conveniently
located just outside on Huntington Avenue.
Only first time college students who have been offered a place in the Foundation
Program at MassArt are invited to live in Smith Hall. Completed residence
hall applications must be received by the Office of Housing and Residence Life
on or before May 1st in order to guarantee a space in the residence hall.
The Artists' Residence
MassArt’s Artists’ Residence is a state-of-the-art living and
working environment for undergraduate and graduate student artists. The building
was designed to create a convenient, safe and comfortable environment for student
artists to live and learn. Amenities include 2-story workrooms; 24/7 security;
telephone w/ voicemail for each student; high-speed internet connections with
data/cable hook up for each student; all utilities included (except long distance
phone); fully furnished bedrooms and common areas; full service kitchens with
eat-in dining area; and air conditioning. An additional amenity is a partial
meal plan in the Dining Commons of the Campus Center, which is required of
students living in the Artists’ Residence. Other conveniences include
a first floor laundry room, mailroom, offices for residence staff and property
management, outdoor courtyard areas and a convenience store located at the
entrance of the building.
A Resident Director and eight student Community Assistants live and
work
in the Artists’ Residence. In addition to planning social, educational
and cultural programs these individuals act as resources to counsel and advise
on-campus students on both academic and personal issues, report building or
maintenance problems and help out in emergency situations.
Leases: Students have the option of signing up for the Academic
Year term or the Academic Year + Summer term (ends 8/11).
