Housing & Residence Life
Massachusetts College of Art and Design houses students in two residence halls: Smith
Hall and The Artists’ Residence. Smith Hall has suite-style living
spaces, which accommodate 116 students who are entering college for the first
time. In contrast, The Artists’ Residence is an apartment-style hall
that houses 250 students. The majority of students living in The Artists’ Residence
are first time college students; however, continuing, transfer, and graduate
students reside there as well. In both of our residence halls, we offer two
themed living options. The Substance Free community designed for students
who choose healthy habits and do not use tobacco products, alcohol, and other
drugs. Our second living option is for students who identify with the Lesbian,
Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgendered or Ally community. Choosing to live within
the LGBTA community allows students to gain support and network with other
students who have similar lifestyles.

In mid-June students on the waitlist will have the opportunity to participate
in an e-mail listserv to find potential roommates and share off campus housing
information. Please be aware, off campus housing opportunities are not affiliated
with MassArt.
[off campus housing assistance]
The Office of Housing and Residence Life provides several resources
for students looking for off campus housing. There is information on where
and how to look for housing in Boston as well as tips for staying safe on
the MassArt housing website at www.massart.edu.
In mid-June the Office of Housing and Residence Life will create a listserv
of students on the waitlist looking for off campus housing to enable them
to connect with each other. On campus, there is a message board where students
can post information if they are looking for an apartment or if they have
an apartment or room available. Students can also submit this information
to the housing@massart.edu e-mail
address, and we will post the information for you. Additionally, the Office
of Housing and Residence Life publishes a booklet with information on Boston
neighborhoods and renting tips. Please be aware, off campus housing opportunities
are not affiliated with MassArt.
