- All fees and other financial obligations to the College must be paid in
order to graduate. If you think you are delinquent in any manner, contact
the Business Office (617-879-7902) for tuition and fees or student loan
payments and/or the Library (617-879-7108) for library fines. If at any time
you have ever received any type of guaranteed student loan through the College,
you must attend an exit interview PRIOR to graduating. Please contact the
Financial Aid office (617-879-7847) if you have any questions about this
requirement. Transcripts with degrees posted will be available after Commencement.
- Candidates that require ADA accommodations (interpreter for the deaf, wheelchair
access, etc.) for the ceremony should report their needs to Mercedes Evans
in the Office of Civil Rights Compliance and Diversity at 617-879-7060 before
May 1. Her office will need time to fulfill any requests by commencement
day.
- Tickets
are NEEDED to enter the gymnasium for an INDOOR ceremony (if it is raining).
TICKETS WILL NOT BE MAILED and must be picked up IN PERSON by the candidate
after May 1. The Pozen Theatre, with its live video/audio broadcast
of the ceremony, can be accessed without a ticket by any additional guests
you may have.
- All candidates need a black cap and gown, available for purchase
in the MassArt Supply & Bookstore after May 1. Additionally,
MSAE and MFA candidates need to prepay for their appropriate degree hood
(which is then presented at the commencement ceremony). Minor adjustments
and customization are acceptable (ideas are placed on the MassArt website
in the commencement section).
- Bachelor and Master of Fine Art degree candidates
should report in academic cap and gown, with tassel hanging from the left
front of the cap, to the rear of Evans park (for an outside ceremony) or
Tower 2nd floor (indoor ceremony) beginning at the mini café at
least 45 minutes prior to the ceremony. Appropriate signage and commencement
staff will direct you where you need to go.
- Please do not bring purses
or other extraneous items with you in line, as you are not permitted to
carry them in the procession.
- Commencement staff will organize the candidate
procession. When you arrive, report to the staff member located by the
sign for your major (any dual or open majors are located at the end). You
will be given a card with your name and position number on it. It is very
important that you not lose this card. When you are directed to do so you
will line up in numerical order in front of your major section. MSAE and
MFA candidates line up in front of BFA students and have their own section
and staff person from the Graduate Office.
- Candidates will be escorted single
file into the park (outdoor ceremony) or gymnasium (indoor ceremony) by a
commencement staff member. When you reach your chair, please remain standing
until instructed to sit by the Academic Vice President onstage.
- During the
ceremony, candidates will rise one row at a time when requested to do so
and head toward the platform for the conferring of degrees. MAKE SURE YOU
HAVE YOUR NAME CARD. When you reach the ramp to the platform, you must give
your name card to the staff member collecting them. Then, when your name
is announced, you will enter the platform area and receive your proxy diploma
(see #11 below).
- Upon completion of the ceremony, the Platform Party will
be first to exit followed by faculty as announced by the Academic Vice President.
All graduates will follow the faculty.
- After the ceremony, you have fulfilled
your requirements for the day and are free to continue celebrating with family
and friends in your own way. Any artwork you have in the senior exhibition
may be removed as you leave, or MUST be picked up the following Monday from
10:00am - 5:00pm in the gallery. (NOTE: Artwork will not be stored after
Monday)
- Diplomas are mailed out to graduates in early Fall to the address
listed on the proxy diploma that you receive on the platform during the
ceremony. If you do not plan to attend the commencement exercise, you must
notify the Registrar’s office in writing, giving the exact address
to which the diploma should be mailed.
