Recreation & Wellness Programs
New Fitness Center Opens September 4th! The new Fitness Center is located at Beatty Hall, on the Wentworth Institute of Technology campus. The Fitness Center offers a state-of-the-art line of selectorized, cardiovascular and free weight equipment. The Department of Recreation and Wellness sponsors group exercise and wellness classes that have included: Yoga, Pilates, Kick-boxing, Hi-Steppin, Belly Dancing, Totally Toned, Tango, and Core, as well as personal training to meet your needs. A list of group exercise classes will be announced the first week of September.

Intramural Sports
Recreation and Wellness co-sponsors the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) Intramurals Sports Program which promotes team sports activities between and among the six COF campuses. Students participate in recreational sports including basketball, volleyball, flag football, and soccer (for both men and women). The COF intramural program achieves a large university setting while still catering to the needs of the diversity of each institution.
Varsity Sports
Varsity Sports are offered through an arrangement with Emerson College within the Pro-Arts Consortium. Varsity sports include men’s and women’s soccer, cross country, basketball, indoor track, and women’s volleyball, tennis, and softball. Facilities
- Gymnasium
The Gymnasium, located at the Massachusetts College of Art, in the East Building (adjacent to the Public Safety Office), boasts a regulation size basketball court, as well as 4 side hoops to accommodate any need. The Gymnasium is also available for rent on a limited basis.

- The Fitness Center At Beatty Hall
The Fitness Center is located at Beatty Hall on the Wentworth Institute of Technology campus.
The Fitness Center will be open during the following hours, and will offer a state-of the-art line of selectorized, cardiovascular and free weight equipment. The Department of Recreation and Wellness sponsors group exercise and wellness classes, as well as personal training to meet your needs.
Please note: You will need your current student, faculty or staff ID in order to gain admittance to the Fitness Center.
Monday – Friday: 6am – 11pm
Saturday: 10am – 6pm
Sunday: 12pm – 9pm
- Fitness Center Policies
Only members of the Massachusetts College of Art, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and Wentworth Institute of Technology are allowed to use the Fitness Center. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- All visitors must possess and show a current college issued ID to gain admittance to the Fitness Center.
- All visitors must check in at the desk upon arrival at the Fitness Center.
- Closed toe athletic footwear must be worn at all times. Bare feet, boots or dress shoes may not be worn at any time while using the equipment.
- Between the months of November and April, all visitors must change into a clean pair of shoes before using the Fitness Center.
- Visitors must wear appropriate clothing at all times. Shirts are required.
- As a courtesy to others, please wipe down the equipment after each use.
- Out of safety concerns, please re-rack your weights when you have completed your exercise and return equipment to its’ proper location.
- Barbells, when in use, MUST have collars.
- No food (including gum) or drink (except water) is allowed at any time in the Fitness Center.
- No abusive language permitted. Violators will be asked to leave.
- Visitors are asked to NOT adjust the TV channel. If you would like to view another program, please ask the Fitness Center staff to change the channel for you.
- Failure to follow the above policies and/or ignoring the direction of Fitness Center staff will result in a suspension of privileges at the discretion of the Director of Recreation and Wellness.

Q. What are the hours for the Fitness Center at Beatty Hall?
A. The Fitness Center is open the following hours:

* Outside doors lock at 10pm, so you must be in the building prior to that time
Q. How do I get to the fitness center?
A. Please view the map located on our web page.
Q. What do I need to get into the fitness center?
A. You will need a current student ID in order to gain admittance to the fitness center. During the winter months, you will be REQUIRED to have a second pair of shoes to change into.
Q. I’ve heard the fitness center is open to MCPHS, Mass Art & Wentworth students, is that true?
A. Yes, the Fitness Center is open to the MCPHS, Mass Art and Wentworth communities.
Q. Do you have lockers available?
A. We have storage cubbies where you may keep your belongings while you work out. The Department of Recreation and Wellness and the Fitness Center staff is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Q. I’ve heard it is impossible to get on equipment because it is so busy. Why is this?
A. While it is true that the Fitness Center is a busy place, there are always times when equipment is available. During peak hours (after 5pm) you may have to wait to use a piece of cardio equipment, however, there are time limits so that we can allow more individuals to use the equipment. We hope that this will keep everyone happy. You can always try adjusting your workout time to non-peak hours.
Q. Do you have personal trainers?
A. We do have personal trainers that can be booked for sessions on a daily basis. Please speak with a Fitness Center attendant for more information about prices, availability, etc.
Q. I’m a commuter student, where can I shower?
A. Shower facilities are available for use. Please speak with a Fitness Center attendant for more information on location.

The Department of Recreation and Wellness is the single largest employer of students at Massachusetts College of Art and .Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with over 40 student employees, the department offers many opportunities to hone your leadership skills in a fun and energetic environment. While we like to believe it is all fun and games here, we provide an important service to our guests, a service which requires a tremendous amount of dedication, commitment and a dynamic personality. Our jobs are in high demand, but we welcome applications from those students who feel they have something to offer the guests of the Wellness Center and Gymnasium.
Positions
Wellness Center Guest Services Coordinator: The Wellness Center Guest Services Coordinator assists our guests using the Wellness Center. This position requires someone who is energetic, enjoys a fast-paced environment, and shows the responsibility to take on tasks with little or no direct supervision. This person should be willing to respond to a guest’s needs quickly and with great care and concern. The right person will be committed to providing first-rate customer service at all times, even when few people are around.
Gymnasium Guest Services Coordinator: The Gymnasium Guest Services Coordinator works in a environment that is altogether different from the Wellness Center, but still must carry a high degree of responsibility and be a self-starter who will get the job done without much direct supervision.
Recreation and Wellness Office Assistant: This position provides immediate and direct support to the Director and Assistant Director of the Department of Recreation and Wellness. This opportunity combines day-to-day tasks with the larger ability to shape and assist the administrative staff in forming new policies and programs for the Department. This position requires a high level of professionalism and a fun-loving attitude.
