Summer Studios
MassArt’s dynamic and engaging pre-college summer program is for the young artists who are serious about their work. Students from around the country and abroad come together to explore MassArt and higher education in the visual arts. The intensive, residency-based program offers an opportunity to learn about choices. In-depth elective and foundation studios introduce students to the rigors and joys of working hard. This is also a perfect opportunity for students interested in being a part of the MassArt community before college.

Schedule
Summer Studios meets Monday through Friday for four weeks.
In the morning, students attend 2D and 3D Fundamentals and Issues and Images classes, and in the afternoon they explore different media and areas through two electives they have selected. M-F, 8:30am-4:30pm.
Attendance is mandatory in each studio. The nature of this program is that of a rigorous art school. Students are expected to complete homework assignments and engage in individual and group critiques.
Special Events
- Sneak Preview College Day
- This full day event provides an in depth introduction to the art college admissions process. The morning session focuses on reviews of students’ artwork created in the program. In the afternoon, area art colleges join MassArt to describe their school’s mission. A mini college fair follows the afternoon session.
- Student Exhibition
- This program concludes with an exhibition of artwork produced during Summer Studios. Family and friends are invited to attend the student exhibition, which takes place on the final Saturday of the program. This celebratory day includes an exhibition of 2D and 3D works, a film screening, and presentation of certificates.
Residence
For those who wish to experience summer in the city, MassArt offers accommodations in the comfortable air-conditioned Artists’ Residence. Students are housed in apartment style suites, and the residences feature individual workspaces, general studio space, quiet study areas and 24–hour security. Students participate in evening and weekend activities with other students living and learning at the college. Resident assistants act as student mentors and supervise studio, evening and weekend activities.There is an 11:30 pm curfew Friday and Saturday and a 10:00 pm curfew Sunday through Thursday that must be strictly observed by all Summer Studios participants residing in the residence hall. Students staying in the Artists’ Residence may sign out during non-program hours to explore all that Boston has to offer with at least one other student enrolled in the program. Students must inform the residential assistants of their intended destination and must observe the curfew rules.
The Artists’ Residence is inhabited by a variety of professionals as well as other MassArt and neighboring campus students. Students requesting to live in the Artists’ Residence are required to complete an additional questionnaire which will be mailed upon receive of application. Space in the Artists’ Residence is limited, and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
