Studios for Teens in Art and Design

Studios for Teens in Art and Design offers middle and high school students access to in-depth classes taught by professional artists. Students work to develop skills and explore techniques while strengthening their creative voice. Studios for Teens in Art and Design benefits students interested in developing their portfolio as well as those who are curious to learn more about the visual arts and design. The courses serve as a complement to middle and high school art education by offering access to art materials rarely available to pre-college students.

Studios Offered

Studio Explorations (Grades 6-8)
Artists will draw, paint and sculpt from observation and imagination in this studio fundamentals course. Communication, composition and design elements will be developed.
Architecture and Design (Grades 7-10)
How do we express our ideas about the architecture that surrounds us? This studio includes drawing exercises, structural building projects, and the basics of drafting and model building.
Figure Drawing (Grades 11 & 12)
This studio explores traditional and innovative ways of rendering the human figure. A variety of mediums and styles will be presented, and students are encouraged to broaden their approach towards a personal vision. Please note that there will be nude models. Parental consent is required.
Black & White Photography (Grades 9-12)
Learn basic camera operations, black & white film developing and printing and rules and techniques of good image composition. Learn or strengthen printing skills for creating fine prints. A 35mm camera is needed. Manual control cameras are preferred. NOTE: Course requires an additional $85 lab fee.
