Grades

The college has a dual grading system. All Foundation year courses are Pass/No Credit. After the first year, some departments give letter grades and other departments give Pass/No Credit, depending on which system, in the view of the faculty of each department, best serves the department’s goals.

Grading Policy for Graduate Students
Students in the MFA program are graded on a Pass/No Credit basis in all departments. In order to pass, a graduate student’s work must be at the level of a B or better. Honors may not be assigned as a course grade to students in the MFA program. Graduate students in the Art Education program are assigned letter grades in the appropriate departments and may be assigned Honors for exceptional work. An Art Education graduate student’s work must be at the level of B or better.
Clarification of Evaluation
Students in Pass/No Credit courses may request a written explanation from their instructor by obtaining Clarification of Evaluation form from the Continuing Education Office before the class ends. The form is kept on file. Students may request a copy of this form to be sent with their transcripts.
