Types of Aid
MassArt participates in a wide variety of federal and state financial aid programs. Your financial aid package may be comprised of many different types of awards: grants, scholarships, tuition waivers, work-study and loans. The type of aid you receive will depend on whether it is need-based (determined by your demonstrated financial need) or non-need-based (determined by merit or other factors). Most of the aid available from MassArt is based on financial need.
If an award is not listed on a student's award letter, then the award is not available based on eligibility criteria or the funding for that particular award has been exhausted.
Scholarships, grants, and tuition waivers are considered gift aid and do not need be repaid. Other sources of aid are available, primarily in the form of federal or state loans and work-study awards.
If the aid a student has accepted does not cover the total cost of his/her education, then applying for a private student loan may help to fill the additional need.
