Auctioneer Karen Keane with Anthony Petchkis’ Across the Marshes to Sandwich Center

On March 31, 2007, the Massachusetts College of Art + Design Foundation, Inc. held its 18th Annual Benefit Art Auction in the Paine and Bakalar Galleries.  For MassArt, the Auction is the single most important fundraising event of the year and a substantial contributor to academic programs and student scholarships.

This year's Auction was a remarkable success!  Collectors both seasoned and new discovered fantastic artwork to take home, delighting in our best showing of work yet and an extremely spirited Live Auction.  With record-breaking sponsorship and attendance and over 325 pieces of art in the Auction, we raised over $600,000 – none of which would have been possible without the support of Auction artists, sponsors, ticket holders and friends of the college.

The Live Auction crowd

The MassArt Auction has always had something for everyone, with a wide range of prices, styles and periods both from new and emerging artists, as well as well-known, established artists.  Among the nationally and internationally known artists, emerging artists, MassArt alumni, faculty and students represented in this year's Auction were: Ambreen Butt ’97, Nicole Chesney ‘97, Sam Durant ’86, Abelardo Morell, George Nick, Nicholas Nixon, Liliana Porter, Bill Thompson, Cheryl Warrick ’88 and William Wegman ’65.

MassArt's Annual Benefit Art Auction is a festive, exciting way to explore the contemporary art world, and this year was no exception!  In contributing artwork, sponsoring the Auction, placing a winning bid or raising their paddle to support the student travel scholarship program, so many people helped to make this year's program a success, and we thank you for it.  If you are interested in submitting artwork for next year or would like to be added to our Auction mailing list, please contact Sarah Mercurio at (617) 879-7014 or auction@massart.edu.

Once again, thank you for making this year’s Auction the best yet.
