Visiting Artists 2010
Bill Jacobson
Tower Auditorium
Bill Jacobson's early work - soft-focus figurative black-and-white photographs - often dealt with the AIDS epidemic. The blurred and poignant portraits evoked a sense of loss, and the futility of representing the scope of personality through still images. Over time, Jacobson shifted to color and took his camera outside, capturing the light washing over New York's bustle and creating seductive Hopperesque compositions.
Antony Gormley
Tower Auditorium
Antony Gormley is among the most celebrated sculptors working today. Since 1990 he has explored the collective body and the relationship between self and other in large-scale installations and projects.
Tristin Lowe
Trustees Room, Tower Building, 11th floor
Tristin Lowe's (BFA '90) sculptures delve into the abject and vulnerable, the childish and crude. Celebratory, critical, and self-deprecating, his sculptures explore social norms, fantasy worlds, underground culture, the carnival, and burlesque.
Lisa Yuskavage
Tower Auditorium
Lisa Yuskavage creates sumptuous, self-aware, and boundary-pushing paintings that feature a familiar subject matter: female nudes, which have filled historical canvases for centuries. Often employing fanciful landscapes or staged interiors and intense color palettes to portray her iconic distorted figures, she creates provocative paintings that elicit visceral reactions.
