Alec Soth
Alec Soth
Trustees Room, Tower Auditorium, 11th floor
Alec Soth has spent his career traveling the United States, and for a brief period Bogotá, Colombia, photographing people, landscapes, and ephemera that he encounters. Reminiscent of the American photographic traditions of Walker Evans, Robert Frank, and Stephen Shore, Soth chronicles the people he happens upon in a search for the familiar in the unknown and everyday. His photographs are represented in major public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Walker Art Center. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 2004 São Paolo and Whitney Biennials and a career survey at the Jeu de Paume in 2008. He has published five monographs to date and is represented by the Gagosian Gallery in New York and the Weinstein Gallery in Minneapolis.
