Observational Drawing and Portfolio Development offers high school students a unique opportunity to strengthen observational drawing skills and cultivate a personal point of view while gaining insight into building a portfolio and the art school admissions process. Students explore traditional and innovative ways of rendering the observed world through a variety of media and styles. Taught by artist/educator Kevin Townsend and designed in collaboration with MassArt Dean of Admissions Karen Townsend, the class encourages students to move beyond typical neutral studies and build skills in pursuit of a strong, singular personal vision and voice through focused drawing assignments, critiques and workshops with Admissions staff.

Please note that there will be nude models and parental consent is required.

Kevin Townsend is an artist, educator and former master printer for Hand Print Workshop International. He has taught at MassArt, Monsterrat College of Art, Maine College of Art and Corcoran College of Art + Design.
