Afternoon Sessions

All studios run from 1:00p.m. to 4:30p.m.

LAND, SEA AND AIR (GRADES 3-4)
Look for ways that art can imitate nature. Through rhythms, patterns, repetition and color, students explore their imaginations and
respond to their intuitive understanding of these elements. In this studio, students draw, paint, and sculpt.

DRAWING FROM NATURE (GRADES 5-6)
Drawing will be students entry way in to this exploration of the plants and animals that surround us. Students will keep a journal of their observations in the Fens. Through drawing, painting, and writing students will gain skills as they explore the natural world. Visits to neighboring parks and museums will be included in this course.

STUDIO EXPLORATIONS (GRADES 5-6)
Draw, paint and sculpt from the clothed figure, the still life and from imagination. Visits to neighboring museums and galleries emphasize the connections between students' artwork and exhibited art. Studio work includes 2D and 3D fundamentals. Composition and design elements are discussed and developed.

COMIC BOOK ART (GRADES 7–9)
This studio class focuses on the art of sequential comics. Learn how to translate sketches into clear, dynamic and entertaining comics. Focus on story structure, style, and find your own voice in the ever-changing world of comic art.

PAINTING FUNDAMENTALS (GRADES 7–9)
Using acrylic paint, students will learn foundational painting techniques. Composition, color, tone, and line will be explored as students work from observation and develop skills in mixing colors.

ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN (GRADES 7–9)
How do we express our ideas about the architecture that surrounds us? What would your dream house look like? This studio includes drawing exercises, structural building projects, exploratory field trips, and the basics of drafting and model building.

DRAWING FUNDAMENTALS (GRADES 7-9)
In this class, students learn different tools to help develop drawing skills and techniques, and expand their visual vocabulary. The class covers basics of linear and aerial perspective, as well as a number of traditional and less conventional approaches to composition and drawing.
