Design Certificate Programs
MassArt's certificate programs are for working adults seeking rigorous programs which combine theory and practice. Students who seek expertise in a particular area but do not want to pursue a full degree may choose to enroll in one of four certificate programs. Certificate courses are taught by MassArt faculty and provide students with the solid professional skills required to enter the workforce as a practicing designer.
- The furniture design certificate program provides students the ability to design and build unique studio furniture and limited production pieces, design and build prototype furniture and develop a basic understanding of issues, materials and production that would constitute an introduction to working in the area of contract furniture. Offered in partnership with North Bennet Street School.
- The fashion design certificate program covers fashion fundamentals such as pattern drafting and fashion illustration, as well as specific applications including costume and handbag design, millinery, and tailoring.
- The graphic design certificate program invites students to explore the formal elements of design including composition, color, texture, and shape and helps them develop skills in integrating typography and imagery to clearly communicate information.
- The industrial design certificate program gives students a solid foundation in the design process, from research and concept sketching through to presentation and fabrication. Students develop expertise in both drawing techniques and scale-model making.
Many students pursue admission to certificate programs by first enrolling in individual professional and continuing education courses. These provide an opportunity to build and strengthen a portfolio for later review and admission to either a certificate or degree program.
Certificate programs are not eligible for an F-1 visa to be granted.
