MAT: Master of Arts in Teaching/Art Education
The MAT: Master of Arts in Teaching/Art Education program is intended for students who hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, possess a strong studio art background, and are interested in art education.
The program combines work in teaching methods, development, aesthetics, and studio processes. The MAT: Master of Arts in Teaching/Art Education program provides the coursework necessary for Initial and Professional Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Teaching licensure in Massachusetts requires passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL). Candidates for the MAT: Master of Arts in Teaching/Art Education program who are planning to seek licensure are encouraged to pass the MTEL tests in both 'Communications and Literacy Skills' and 'Visual Arts' before they apply for admission.
Application to all MassArt's Graduate Programs is online, including portfolio submissions.
