Graphic Design Certificate
Applicants for the Graphic Design Certificate program must have completed a minimum of sixty undergraduate credits in an accredited post-secondary institution. Applicants may enroll in the first two courses of the program without being officially admitted, but are encouraged to file an application for admission before going further in the sequence. A maximum of six credits may be transferable at the time of acceptance with approval of the program director. Course work for the program is generally taken over a period of three years; all courses are offered in the evening.
Applications to the graphic design certificate program must be completed by April 1 to begin the program in the fall or summer, and by November 1 for spring matriculation. Design faculty review applicants in the month following completion deadlines, and notification of the decision is sent by mail.

- Application Fee
A fee of $35 payable to MassArt must accompany the application.
Applicants should submit official post-secondary education transcripts. Transcripts should be forwarded to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Applicants who have taken Continuing Education courses at MassArt must request an official copy of their transcripts from Professional and Continuing Education be sent to the admissions office. Also, submit a list of courses in which you are currently enrolled.
- Statement of Purpose
As a graphic designer you are expected to be able to communicate effectively in writing as well as visually. Use your statement, an essay of no less than five hundred words, to define your interests and experience in the field of graphic design.
Supplement your application with a resume outlining your professional experience, education and accomplishments.
Portfolios for design certificate applicants are expected to demonstrate basic skills in visual language (drawing, color, composition, 2 and 3D design) and proficiency and interest in design. Students enrolled in design courses through Continuing Education should include work done in class as part of their portfolios. The portfolio must contain at least fifteen pieces of artwork and must be presented in slide format in a slide file page, or on CD. It is suggested that portfolios submitted on CD contain no more than 20 images and include a list that describes the subject of the work and media. Dates and sizes are not necessary. If the work was accomplished for a class, please state the name of the class and the nature of the assignment.
