    Photo Nights Boston :: Public Art Call to Photographers ::
    Deadline: Friday, February 3, 2012

    Eligibility
    Open to artists 18 years of age or older with no geographic restriction.

    Budget
    Finalists will receive a $1,000 proposal development fee. The project budget is $10,000.

    Project Summary
    Boston is one of the few urban centers in the United States whose historic buildings share equal space and prominence with more modern constructions within the city. Photo Nights Boston seeks to draw attention to these landmark buildings with large-scale outdoor projections. As part of Photo Nights Boston's October 2012 public art event, an artist will be selected to design and produce a photography-based work of public art as a focal point.

    Eligibility and Awards
    Experimental Honors Design Award: This $2,000 competition is open to designers/artists/teams internationally.
    Design-Build Awards: Open to designers/artists/teams from the northeast region of the USA: CT, MA, NH, VT, ME, NY, NJ. Four $7,500 awards.

    Project Summary
    Rethinking art, environment and community
    Kunst - umwelt - nachbarschaft neu denken

    The objective of this competition is to uncover new public realm art, architectural and environmental approaches to riverscapes at two scales: regional and intimate. Each designer/artist/team will produce an overall strategy for connecting and relating the four defined sites (and those between) while paying attention to the unique and individual characteristics of each community through site specific work.

    Presented by Five Colleges Inc. and the Five College Architectural Studies Program. Funded by the Delegation of the European Union, Five Colleges Inc., Hampshire College, University of Massachusetts Amherst Landscape Architecture, and Regional Planning.

    The Urban Arts Institute's Project Manager Christina Lanzl founded and co-chairs the Placemaking Network at the Boston Society of Architects/AIA. The group is dedicated to interdisciplinary dialogue and education on an integrated public realm and investigates ways to enrich the built environment. A monthly seminar series features experts in the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering, public art and related fields.
