Burlington, MA (August 5, 2009)
– The Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) Fashion Department announced today it will exhibit Wearable Art at Burlington Mall for three weeks this fall, including during Boston Fashion Week. The exhibit will run from September 20 through October 10, and will feature a collection of ensembles created by MassArt fashion design students.

Wearable Art showcases a collection of 30 creative designs, including non-textiles, contemporary daywear, elegant eveningwear and expertly tailored coats. From over 200 ensembles produced by MassArt fashion students this year, Assistant Professor of Fashion Design, Jayne Avery, selected the top designs for the Burlington Mall exhibit. “As curator, my job was not easy. There were so many wonderful ensembles to choose from and arrange in one cohesive display to represent our students’ talent,” said Jayne Avery.

To add to the excitement, MassArt’s Wearable Art exhibit will be highlighted during Burlington Mall’s second annual Simon Fashion Now event on Saturday, October 3.  Simon Fashion Now is a day-long fashion extravaganza featuring runway fashion shows, the latest trends in cosmetics and fall’s must-have accessories. Included in the day’s festivities will be a 5 p.m. reception to meet the student designers, followed by a private cocktail reception with featured guest fashion personalities modeling select non-textile designs from MassArt’s Wearable Art collection.

MassArt’s Jayne Avery explains, “The students and I can’t wait to fit traffic cones, 3-D glasses, molded vinyl records and more on our special models. No one is expecting silk charmeuse or duchess satin – it’s all recycled, sustainable, eco-friendly wearable art!”

The evening will continue with the red carpet-to-runway fashions of MassArt alumnus Jeury Rosario right before a grand finale fashion show presented by Nordstrom.

“Burlington Mall is honored to host such a visually stunning display,” said Linnea Gerrior Kelliher, Director of Marketing at Burlington Mall. “Wearable Art is fashion for all and that is just what Simon Fashion Now celebrates. We are all excited to see MassArt fashions on exhibit and on the bodies of some of Massachusetts’ most celebrated women,” she continued.
