2013 Grads Awarded AIAS Chapter Presidents Honor
MassArt 2013 graduates Samantha Parsloe and Stephen Russell won the 2012-2013 AIAS Chapter Presidents Honor Award. This national award, given by the American Institute of Architecture Students, recognizes then for the outstanding job they have done to grow the AIAS Chapter at MassArt and give back to the community.
Among their accomplishments, they organized and hosted workshops on graphic design, 3DS Max, laser cutting, and more. They also set up a Passivehaus conference and created "firm crawls" to introduce students to local employers.
"Their work has been exemplary in creating broadly attended programs; and their passionate service significant in building an energized chapter at MassArt," said Patricia Seitz, chair of the graduate program in architecture. "Most importantly, they built a 200 percent increase in membership, bringing it to approximately 35 percent of our total graudate and undergraduate population. This has created a pride in the studios that is palpable on campus."
Samantha and Stephen will be officially presented with the award at AIAS FORUM in Chicago this December.
"This award was important for both of us as it acknowledged how much work we have done as chapter presidents," Samantha said. "Most important to both of us is that this award is bringing more attention to the architecture department at MassArt, which deserves it. It has been exciting to see the department grow in the time we have been there, and we are pleased to say we both know it will continue to grow even in our absence."
